Angel Gustavo Huapalla is a chef and entrepreneur who arrived to the Washington, D.C. area more than thirty years ago from Argentina. It did not take long before Gustavo ventured into the restaurant business. For most of his life, he has been involved in every single aspect of such industry–and he put all that experience into his first restaurant: Rumba Café. Rumba Café opened in Adams Morgan twenty years ago in 1998. There, Gustavo has showcased some of the most popular dishes of Latin America and his own creations, providing Rumba Café with a unique taste and flair of the region’s culinary offer.
With Rumba Café, Gustavo has provided a window to the wonders and magic of Latin America. As the face of Rumba Café, Gustavo Huapalla takes pride in working non-stop to ensure that his customers leave satisfied after visiting his distinctive place.

Chef Gustavo’s experience is evident, and his instructional skills are world-class! He made a point to connect with each of us in the class and made timely corrections so that our empanadas would turn out spectacular. And they did! We had so much fun! And Chef Gustavo was great to talk to. We want to take another class with him!
