Chef Alex is a Peruvian Chef who’s been in the industry for over 12 years, both in Peru and throughout a number of restaurants and hotels in the United States.  He was born in Celendin (Cajamarca), a little town in the mountains of Peru, but he grew up in Callao on the coast of Lima where he learned all about seafood and the importance and beauty of fresh fish.  His love for Japanese food started as a fusion of cultures, or as the Peruvians call it Nikkei (Peruvian-Japanese). He also had the opportunity to work with sushi in Miami a couple years ago, where he learned the importance of simplicity and respect for the traditional Japanese method.  Chef Alex loves all food and is also well-versed in pasta, as he had a little home restaurant back in Peru serving up fresh pasta dishes with quality ingredients.  He is so happy to be your Chef instructor and very excited to express and share his passion for the culinary world!

Chef Alexander’s sushi class was amazing! My boyfriend and I took the class and it was perfect. It was 2 hours long and Chef taught us how to make three different rolls. As sushi lovers, this was a perfect beginner class to learn how to make our favorite food. Chef taught us how to filet fish, prepare ingredients, roll and cut sushi rolls! Would definitely recommend and will be taking another class in the future!

I celebrated my birthday here with friends and had such a great experience. The directions were very clear and easy to follow, which made everything stress-free. The chef was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, patient, and engaging. The staff member who welcomed us was incredibly kind and accommodating. She made sure we were checked in, seated comfortably, and taken care of throughout the experience, even handling cleanup. Their hospitality truly made the celebration feel special and enjoyable from start to finish.

For XMAS I gifted my wife and 2 of our good friends with a pasta making class run by Chef Alex & his awesome wife Christina. It was an amazing and memorable experience. We previously attended one of Chef Alex's sushi making classes in 2025 which we still talk about till this day. Chef Alex is very passionate about what he does. He loves to share his love & enthusiasm for cooking and it shows. He is a great teacher that makes cooking fun. In addition to being a great teacher Chef Alex also made sure to accommodate my wife who is Gluten Free by providing separate ingredients and a different recipe specifically for her. He also gave us some great recommendations on restaurants for our upcoming trip to Miami. Our quad would absolutely love it if Chef Alex ever did a Ceviche class as we would definitely make it a priority to attend. 5 stars for Chef Alex & Christina!

Chef Alexander was enthusiastic, super knowledgeable and organized. He allowed for a lot of time for hands on practice with sushi making skills and he and Christina, his assistant, readily provided individual instruction/corrections and answered questions. The ingredients were fresh. I would take another cooking class from him! The only suggestion I might make is the venue. Because Dockstreet Brewery is so small, the layout was a bit awkward in terms of being able to visualize demonstrations. It may have been more comfortable to be able to do this from our seats rather than have to move and go up to watch these.
