Classic Handmade Pasta

Description

There’s nothing so delicious as fresh pasta, and creating it yourself.

Learn how to make the perfect pasta dough and then transform it into beautiful noodles, Fettuccine or Pappardelle. While your pasta dough is resting, your Chef Instructor will demo how to make two different pasta sauces from scratch: Classic Marinara and Fresh Basil Pesto. Then we'll break out the pasta rollers to learn the traditional way of flattening out the dough until it can be shaped into the perfect noodle. Once your pasta noodles are cooked in boiling water, you will be able to sit down and enjoy your pasta with each sauce if you wish. With a special 15% of wine bottles offered by our partner venue Grafted Cellar, you'll have the option of pairing your pasta dish with the perfect bottle of vino!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are not included in the ticket price. 21+ only.

With a degree in nutrition, Chef Ben spent the first 6 years of his career working as a food scientist for a billion dollar food company. Eventually he realized that processed food was not his passion, and he's spent every spare moment since then mastering his craft in the kitchen with real food, specializing in healthy California inspired cuisine, with an emphasis on whole foods and plant-based recipes.

Where the class will be
Grafted Cellars
2379 La Mirada Drive Vista, CA 92081
Nestled amongst breweries and distilleries in a Vista business park, Grafted Cellars is a hidden gem of quality wine. A family-owned Urban Winery, we source our grapes from right here in Vista, to Napa Valley, to Oregon’s Willamette Valley, any AVA in between…but quality varietals from our own South Coast AVA are a priority, to showcase our local terroir and potential. Fruit is processed and aged at our in-house cellar, right behind our tasting room… we do it all right here. With over 20 varietals represented (and always more on the way), and with love and appreciation for both new and old world style and expression, Grafted Cellars has something for everyone.

Really fun and the sauces Ben made were delicious. I enjoyed the experience and have ordered my own pasta maker to make more at home. It was pretty chilly in the back room of Grafted Cellars, but I imagine that they need to keep the wine stored in a temperature controlled environment. Still, I was very glad that I had a jacket.

Ben did a great job teaching us how to make pasta. He was very good at explaining and showing us what to do while keeping a fun and engaging atmosphere. The space where the cooking class took place, however, was not ideal. We were in the front of the wine-tasting room and it was very crammed. We were told, that the class usually happens in the back room, but that it was not available that day. Luckily, the class was not booked out.

Ben was great and class was fun! Can't wait to go to another one of his classes. Bring a jacket though. The room is cold to keep the wine at a certain temperature.

Chef Ben was wonderful! He put on a really fun and informative class. And the food turned out delicious! We were so excited that we bought our own pasta machine, and can’t wait to do this at home with our daughter!
