Make Your Own Sushi

Description

Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on social cooking class, you’ll learn all the skills needed to make sushi-rolls at home, including how to prepare sushi rice, select sushi-grade fish, and add additional tasty neta (ingredients) to enhance your dining experience. You’ll learn to make three different rolls featuring ingredients such as salmon, tuna, and avocado.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you wish to recreate these at home after the class. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the sushi enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who is happier observing and assisting.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are available for purchase at the venue.

Where the class will be
Eckington Hall
1611 Eckington Pl NE Suite 170, Washington, DC 20002
Eckington Hall was initially created with the intention of housing the pop-up exhibit, "Enchant This" with two New Mexico-based photographers, Gabriela Campos and Nathaniel Tetsuro Paolinelli. It evolved into something much more. That exhibit was amazing, the photos of the people of New Mexico and the New Mexican landscape were gorgeous, but people would walk into the gallery and say, “Looks great, but when are you all open?” Eckington Hall is a large space so to many people, the space looked bare. So we just started to fill the space. Having previously produced several markets in the DC area like Dupont’s Basement at Dupont Underground and the National Landing Market, we had a rolodex of great vendors who we love working with and wanted to fill the space with their work/products and run a market. And it took on a world of its own. We also started throwing some events, hosting workshops. The term we like to use is creative multipurpose room. Some people walk in and ask, “What is this?” Our response is, “Why does it have to be anything?”

The instructor was great, the location was nice and the results were delicious! I'll be making my own sushi at home after this and would recommend this class to anyone. My only criticism is that it was very hard to hear the instructor due to the other noise inside the restaurant.
