Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on social cooking class, you’ll learn all the skills needed to make sushi-rolls at home, including how to prepare sushi rice, select sushi-grade fish, and add additional tasty neta (ingredients) to enhance your dining experience. You’ll learn to make three different rolls featuring salmon, tuna, and other ingredients such as cucumber, avocado, and imitation crab.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you wish to recreate these at home after the class. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the sushi enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting.

Meet your chef instructor
Chef Shannon’s culinary career began at a five-star hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and he completed his training at The Art Institute in Washington, D.C. Prior to his new role in Dulles, he worked at multiple Hen Quarter locations in the Washington, D. C. area with world-renowned Master Chef Fred Raynaud, one of only forty master chefs in the United States. One of the most special things about Chef Shannon is his culinary style which combines elements from his native Peru, with other cuisines. He believes in only using the freshest ingredients with a farm-to-table mentality to create his dishes. He continues to develop and master the gift for creating sauces that infuse flavors from his global travels, including Asia, Netherlands, Latin America, Canada and more.

Where the class will be
Guest requirement
The class will take place in Chef's venue - Akeno Sushi Bar & Thai. No outside drinks are allowed! Venue will have drinks available for purchase.
Cancellation policy
Reschedule request have to be made at least 48 hours before the class for groups of less than 6 people and 14 days for groups of 6 people or more. Cancellations are not permitted and tickets are non-refundable.See terms and policy.

Our instructor, whose name I believe is Mandai, was great! I don’t like sushi and had little knowledge on it but I walked away with a better appreciation of the cuisine. It was easy to follow along and ask questions and my husband and I were excited about how our rolls came out. We would go back again and can’t praise Akeno enough.

The chef was great - very personable, knowledgeable and eager to teach! Food was excellent as well. Only areas of improvement would be: table was too small and crowded; hard to see the chef demo from some angles and hard to use the knife because people were very close on both sides of you. Also, the restaurant was noisy, and we couldn't hear everything the chef was saying. Would be better to have a quieter, dedicated space for the class.

This was a great experience! Chef Made is an awesome teacher - super patient, and very knowledgeable. This class was lots of fun! If you've ever wanted to try your hand at sushi, this is a great way to learn. Chef Made made has plenty of great tips that make it fairly easy - you'll be making tight rolls in no time!
