Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on social cooking class, you’ll learn all the skills needed to make sushi-rolls at home, including how to prepare sushi rice, select sushi-grade fish, and add additional tasty neta (ingredients) to enhance your dining experience. You’ll learn to make two sushi rolls: a California Roll & Salmon Roll. Your chef instructor will also demo how to make a Veggie hand roll for you to practice on your own at home. The ingredients used in this class include: avocado, mango, cucumber, scallion, and nori.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. You will be seated with your booking party and socially distanced from other guests. Guests in the same booking party will work together throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment. Drinks are NOT included in the ticket price, but Strong Rope Brewery beers will be available for purchase at the venue. 21+ only

Meet your chef instructor
Chef Lex graduated with the highest honors from the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) where he obtained his chef diploma and was awarded a grant by the American Institute of Wine & Food to pursue his work in culinary education. He went on to develop a youth leadership curriculum via the culinary arts and spent 5 years putting this curriculum into practice at Harlem Children's Zone where he used dynamic lesson plans centered on the social application of cooking to empower students socially and scholastically. Chef Lex continued his work in culinary education as the Executive Chef and Curriculum Chair at FEDCAP’s Career Design School where he created a curriculum teaching adults with disabilities how to rewrite the narrative of their struggles by transforming food into brilliant statements of self-expression and independence. Chef Lex recently founded a nonprofit, Culinuity, Inc., purposed at providing culinary solutions for food insecurity. In his spare time he shares his food philosophy with thousands of Instagram followers on a live cooking show he does weekly as well as teaches virtual cooking classes for youth and adults alike.

Strong Rope Brewery® brews and serves hand-crafted beer in our Gowanus and Red Hook Brooklyn brewery/taprooms with a seasonal taproom in the Adirondacks. As a New York State farm brewery, our beers range from reinterpreted classics to seasonals that utilize local farms finest ingredients. As a family run business we look to support other local producers, including 100% New York ingredients for all our beers. We also serve New York State wine, cider, and spirits.
Guest requirement
The nature of our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment. Outside drinks are not allowed. Strong Rope Brewery beers are available for purchase from the venue and are NOT included in the ticket price. 21+ only. Please note that Strong Rope Brewery has two locations. Our class takes place at the Red Hook location, NOT Gowanus. Be sure to check the address in your confirmation email.
Cancellation policy
Reschedule request have to be made at least 48 hours before the class for groups of less than 6 people and 14 days for groups of 6 people or more. Cancellations are not permitted and tickets are non-refundable.See terms and policy.

Chef Lex and his assistant were outstanding. Not good, not great…outstanding. We have made sushi at home but wanted more tips and tricks to make it look as good as it tasted.
