Mixology 101: The Art of the Cocktail

Join us for an exciting two-hour mixology experience where you'll transform into a skilled bartender, crafting timeless cocktails that can easily be adopted to any season.

Led by an expert mixologist, this session will guide you through the art of mastering five delightful concoctions: a Moscow Mule, Almond Highball, Split Smash, Pear Bourbon Rickey, and a Tequila Fizz.  Each cocktail focuses on different mixology techniques that will help you become the master of your own home bar.
 Get ready for a hands-on journey into the world of mixology and leave with the skills to impress your friends and family with your newfound cocktail expertise.


The class will begin with an interactive taste test that is sure to give your senses a mystery to solve.  The instructor will demonstrate each cocktail on the menu, giving you the opportunity to taste them all. Each student will be paired with a partner and have the opportunity to make their two favorites from the list.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in.  Guests will work in groups of two throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment, but we are happy to seat you with your booking party if you are with a bigger group.  Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.

Meet your chef instructor
Matthew has about 16.5 years of experience in food and hospitality. He has been a cocktail bartender for 11 of those years with experience between New York and London. Rum and Gin are his expertise and interest, but he loves being able to have fun and expand the palates of his audience.

STATE Grill and Bar is an elegant restaurant located in the Empire State Building. Classic dishes harken back to the way food used to be prepared – from a modern chef’s point of view. Guests can watch their food being prepared in the open kitchen by our chefs, who are inspired by the Empire State and its bounty of market ingredients, from the Hudson Valley to the North Fork.
Guest requirement

The nature of our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment.  Guests who sign up to attend class on their own will be paired with a partner to work with throughout the class.

Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.  The STATE Bar & Grill is within the Empire State Building.  Guests are welcome to dine at the STATE Bar & Grill prior to or following class.  Please call 212.216.9693 for bookings or visit www.patinagroup.com.

Cancellation policy
Reschedule request have to be made at least 48 hours before the class for groups of less than 6 people and 14 days for groups of 6 people or more. Cancellations are not permitted and tickets are non-refundable.See terms and policy.
