Valentine's Date Night: Tagliatelle al Pesto with an Italian Master Chef

Description

Join our Italian Master Chef Instructor, Gianluca, on a culinary journey. Here you will learn the history and traditions of regional Italian cuisine.

The starting point for our class is Liguria, the region of the city of Genoa. This city created one of the most famous cold sauces in the world, pesto alla Genovese (Basil pesto). Forget about the food processor! Chef Gianluca will teach only the most authentic techniques during class, and for pesto that includes a mortar and pestle. This is the ultimate handmade pasta making experience.

From Genoa we will move to Emilia Romagna, the Italian region well known for Mortadella, Prosciutto di Parma, and Bolognese sauce. Yum!! Here we will learn to make fresh egg Tagliatelle pasta completely from scratch. The method for preparing your pasta dish will come from Veneto, the homeland of Bellini and Tiramisu. Once you have completed your culinary journey and taken the steps to cook and plate your dish, we will sit down to enjoy the best plate of pasta Italy can offer without stepping on a plane.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Guests in the same booking party will work together throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment.

The nature of our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment. Drinks are NOT included in the ticket price. Guests are invited to BYOB (beer, wine, and champagne only). Please note that drinks are limited to one bottle of wine per pair.

Meet your chef instructor
Chef Gianluca was born in Sardinia and grew up spending more time in his grandfather's restaurant than his own home. He graduated with honors from the I.P.A.S Istituto Professionale Alberghiero Statale (Arzachena - Costasmeralda), one of the top culinary art institutes in Italy.
This degree and his passion for food helped him to get his foot in the door at several incredible restaurants (mostly fine dining, Michelin starred and five starred hotels) throughout England, France, and Italy where he worked for several years in league with a variety of accomplished chefs, such as Gualtiero Marchesi 3-star Michelin Chef, Andre De Mechever Executive Chef of the Savoy Hotel in London, Carluccio owner of the renowned restaurant chain just to name few. In the year 2000, he moved to NYC, where he opened, managed, and owned several Italian restaurants and wine bars.
Gianluca’s dream is to share the beauty of life, food, and the enjoyment he experienced growing up within the Sardinian culinary culture. His partner, Lyuba, a certified nutritionist from the Food Matters Institute. With a rich global footprint that includes Ukraine, US, Israel, and Sardinia, Lyuba brings a unique perspective to the table. Her academic background in finance laid the foundation for business acumen, but it's her zeal for food and kinship that truly drives her. Together, they are staunch advocates for non-GMO, farm-to-table produce and maintain strong ties with Italian farmers, foragers, artisans, and craftspeople, ensuring a genuine taste of Sardinia in every dish.

Engaging, endearing, loquacious and her love was axiomatic filled with skills that were on full display! Easy to understand and made a challenging experience fun again. I am very good at cooking hard boiled eggs and cereal, so this was a step in the right direction of mastering a very special trait! Until next time!
