Learn to make one of the most popular types of Latin American street food, Arepas! Popular in both Venezuelan and Columbian cuisines, these handmade corn patties are perfect for stuffing with meats and vegetables. Or, simply enjoy eating them on their own with a delicious sauce or cheesy topping.
In this fun and interactive class, you will be guided step-by-step in preparing your very own arepas with cilantro lime chicken. Each guest will make two Arepas, and trust us- they are filling! Chef Oliver can accommodate Vegetarian requests, but you will need to email hello@cocusocial.com with more than 48 hours notice so that the chef can prepare the ingredients.
Class will start with a brief history of Venezuelan food and an introduction to the ingredients you'll be using for this recipe. You'll get to break out some knife skills to prep your mise en place. Then learn how to roll and sear the arepa dough, braise and shred the chicken, prep garnishes, and blend a delicious sauce from scratch. You'll get to stuff your Arepas to your heart's content. But, don't forget to take photos of your masterpieces before taking that first bite!
No experience is required! All equipment and ingredients will be provided. Our events are casual and meant to be fun, relaxing and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting.
Please note that class will be hosted in Chef Oliver's apartment with ample space to socially distance booking parties from one another. Chef Oliver is also maintaining a sanitized space, for your safety, as per CDC guidelines. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in and get comfortable. Guests are welcome to BYOB.
