Classic French Macarons

Description

Be transported to the patisseries of Paris with this classic French Macaron class!

Don your chef aprons, grab your whisks and let's get baking! In this class you will learn how to make the widely loved French Macaron. Together we'll demystify the making of these meringue-based sandwich cookies, walking through each step from the crucial technique of macaronage, to piping, baking, assembling and most importantly, enjoying! We will also explore different filling variations and what it is about these delicate confections that make them so special. Macarons are almond flour based, making them a perfect option for those who prefer gluten-free treats!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group. Guests will work in groups throughout the class, sharing equipment and ingredients. Outside drinks are not allowed. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are NOT included in the ticket price. 21+ only. To ensure the safety and enriching experience of all participants, we require children aged 14 to 17 be accompanied by a parent or guardian during our cooking classes. Classes are intended for adults 21+.

Meet your chef instructor
Abigail Sabir has been a baker since she can remember. From selling chocolate chip cookies at street fairs at the age of 10, to interning under one of the most prestigious French chefs, food has always been her life. She is originally from a small town in Minnesota, but spent her high school years living in the East Bay, and after high school she moved to Salt Lake City and received a Bachelors degree from the University of Utah. After receiving her degree, she worked as a cheese monger and taught cooking classes in a specialty market, where she developed a cheese obsession, and also discovered her love for teaching, before she officially leapt in to baking professionally. She spent a couple years learning the basics of bread and pastry in Salt Lake before deciding it was time to learn from the best - so she moved to France for an intensive 7-month pastry program. While in France she ate as much cheese & delicious pastries as she could, but most importantly she had the opportunity to spend 4 months as an intern at a world renowned, 3 Michelin starred restaurant. During that time she had the opportunity to experience some of the most innovative pastry techniques, so once she returned to the US, she moved to San Francisco, hoping to share and expand on those techniques. The temperate climate, diversity and incredible bounty of produce in the Bay Area provides inspiration for artists of all kinds, and she feels lucky to be able to a part of it. She has always been passionate about food in general and she finds nothing quite as gratifying as sharing that with those who are eager to learn, so come learn with Abigail!

Abigail was very approachable and informative. She struck a great balance between demonstrating how to execute the recipe, and allowing the class to practice executing the recipe. There were plenty of materials to go around and overall, the class was organized.

Abigail was patient and clear. She had clearly spent time figuring out how to teach this in a non-kitchen setting. Timing was good. Very fun class.
