Roll up your sleeves and dive into the heart of Chinese culinary tradition in this hands-on dumpling-making workshop!
Perfect for beginners and food lovers alike, this interactive two-hour class will teach you how to make jiaozi (饺子)—the beloved Chinese dumplings—completely from scratch, just as they've been crafted in home kitchens for generations. Led by Chef Dobbie, you'll begin with a brief look at the cultural history and symbolism of jiaozi, especially their special role in Lunar New Year celebrations. Then, it’s time to get cooking! You’ll mix and knead your own dough, hand-roll dumpling wrappers, and create two types of flavorful fillings—ground pork and scallion & veggie (vegetarian options available). Learn essential knife skills and master a variety of folding techniques, from simple triangles to pleated crescents.
You'll cook your dumplings to perfection using traditional methods—steamed, boiled, or pan-fried—and whip up a delicious dipping sauce to go with them. And of course, the best part: enjoying your handmade dumplings fresh from the pan! Whether you're here to sharpen your culinary skills or simply have fun, this class is the perfect blend of tradition, technique, and taste.
No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as enjoyable for cooking enthusiasts who want to be involved in every step as it is for first-timers who prefer to observe and assist (or just taste-test).
Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. You will be seated with your booking party, and guests in the same party will work together throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment. Drinks are NOT included in the ticket price but will be available for sale at the venue. Outside drinks are not allowed.
Chef Dobbie is a culinary school graduate trained in Chicago, with years of experience as both a private chef and cooking instructor. Her passion for food goes far beyond simply feeding people—she sees cooking as a love language, a path to self-discovery, and even a form of therapy. Whether preparing a meal or guiding others through the process, Dobbie finds deep joy in sharing the kitchen. She thrives on connecting with people, listening to their stories, and building community through food. Each class she leads is an opportunity to learn from one another, share laughter, and celebrate the art of cooking from scratch.
