Hand-Rolled Sushi

Description

Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on social cooking class, you’ll learn all the skills needed to make sushi-rolls at home, including how to prepare sushi rice, select sushi-grade fish, and add additional tasty neta (ingredients) to enhance your dining experience. You’ll learn to make three different rolls featuring a salmon Uramaki, Rainbow Chu maki (rice on the outside), and a veggie handroll.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you wish to recreate these at home after the class. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the sushi enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who is happier observing and assisting.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are available for purchase at the venue.

Where the class will be
Lost Generation Brewing
327 S st. NE, Washington DC 20002
Lost Generation started as a dream whispered between husband and wife late at night, often several beers in. Disillusioned with the local brewing scene here in D.C. during the aughts, we packed up and moved to California to work with the towering giants of the brewing industry, but always with that lingering promise whispered years before, that we would come home and build the brewery we had wished for back then. In here we believe that each pour is an invitation to be one of us. As Gertrude Stein once said, “You are all a Lost Generation.” In here we hold that to be true. We are all one and the same, so let’s raise a glass and have a beer together.

Our teacher adapted as well as possible to the challenging environment: Hosting in a brewery has various strengths and weaknesses, the latter of which included terrible acoustics, exacerbated by a sudden influx of patrons (and dogs) unaffiliated with the class. But again, our teacher adapted to the moment, projected, moved about the tables, carefully modeled everything visually, and ensured we had a wonderful experience!

Amazing time, would definitely do this again. Went for a business outing and really had a great experience. Would recommend maybe having written steps as well as verbal instructions because it would be helpful to see some of the steps throughout the night. It would also be helpful to know what rolls or items we are making to understand what we are intending to use with the items we are cutting / dicing / julienning!
