Piri-piri is Swahili for “pepper pepper” although “piri-piri” is also how it is pronounced in Portuguese. These hot peppers came to Portugal by way of Africa. The Portuguese colony of Mozambique, incorporated it in their cuisine. The influence of their food reached the Portuguese community in South Africa, and it became part and parcel of the South African cuisine.
No experience is required! We will send you the equipment and ingredients list, which are easy to find and you may already have them in your home kitchen. Just make sure you have these essential ingredients: fresh hot chilis, depending on the heat (Piri-piri, Thai bird or Cayenne), garlic cloves, lemon, jumbo shrimp, salt and pepper, extra virgin olive oil, butter, bay leaf, Port wine, parsley, eggs, apple cider vinegar, onion, crushed tomato, rice, chicken or veg stock (can be replaced with water). You will have an opportunity to interact with the Chef and ask questions during the class.
