With a few simple ingredients, a little muscle and a lot of love, whip up these quirky pasta pieces named for their shape of resembling a small ear! Pasta is a staple in Italian cuisine and has been around for centuries. In this fun and interactive class, you will learn the tips and tricks on how to make classic Orecchiette pasta from scratch! Our Chef Instructor will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided step-by-step in replicating the process of making, folding, rolling, cutting and shaping your pasta dough. Our Chef Instructor will then demonstrate how to create two classic sauces; a Marinara sauce and Burnt Butter sauce. We source the freshest ingredients to let the flavors shine through in this simple yet impressive dish.

No experience necessary! The only requirement is a fun attitude and a love of good food. We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive. You will work with other students in groups of 2-4. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group. This is a BYOB event (beer and wine only).

Where the class will be
The Pop Shop
729 Haddon Ave. Collingswood, NJ 08108
There was a time when the local soda fountain was the cornerstone of every town’s Main Street. The Pop Shops are a unique interpretation of fountain shop nostalgia and futuristic blue plate sophistication. From the logotype to the interior murals and decor, the idea has been to not re-do or recreate the typical throwback feels, but to imply nostalgia and predict its future. The Pop Shops call to mind the main street soda fountains era with vintage décor, retro soda counter, bubblegum colors and 50’s juke boxes. The Pop Shop’s award-winning menu offers a quirky collection of modern American comfort foods. Besides all-day breakfasts, build-your-own burgers, and different grilled cheese sandwiches, the menu features hot and cold sandwiches, appetizers, great salads, vegetarian and vegan items, blue plate specials, ice cream treats, real milk shakes, and specialty fountain beverages. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices, too!

It was fun and we learned a fun recipe that seems doable now. But the table was too long and we were not able to see what the instructor was doing. She came around to very briefly check everyone's work but just pretty much said everything was good and we could do whatever shape we wanted. Which would have been fine feedback, if we had even known what the goal shape was. The butter sauce she clearly made that night and it was very delicious, but the marinara (while good) was also clearly from a jar. I thought that we would also be learning about how to make the sauces. The actual kitchen in the venue was barely large enough for the instructor to cook in, so we could not even observe her making the one sauce. The owners of the venue also hovered over the entire class. That was very awkward. They also insisted on music playing, and it was too loud and a grating mix of "top" songs that did not go with the vibe of the event at all.
