A Taste of El Salvador: Pupusas & Fried Sweet Plantains

Take to the streets of El Salvador, for an evening of making traditional Pupusas from scratch! Pupusas are one of the most iconic dishes of El Salvador, they are thick flatbreads made from masa (corn) flour and stuffed or topped with delicious savory fillings. In addition to the traditional side of curtido and salsa, Pupusas go perfectly with both sweet and savory latin side dishes such as fried sweet plantains or "platanos fritos". Based on your preference, you can make this authentic and tasty meal suitable to enjoy any time of day!

In this fun and interactive class, you will be guided step-by-step in preparing your very own Pupusas filled with your choice of refried beans, cheese, or a combination of the two. Your Chef Instructor will demonstrate how to make curtido (a tangy Salvadoran cabbage slaw) as well as fried sweet plantains which guests will recreate and top with their choice of sour cream and/or queso fresco. Your instructor will then demonstrate how to make corn masa dough allowing you to replicate the process in pairs or small groups with your preferred fillings. After pan-frying the dough to a golden brown perfection, you will be able to enjoy your creations with a side of curtido, salsa and delicious crispy-sweet plantains.

Learn about traditional ingredients, and test out your knife skills and appropriate pan frying techniques in this class. The best part will be sitting down to enjoy your delicious meal that was entirely made from scratch, perhaps with a refreshing craft beer or two from our friends at Wild Barrel!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are not included in the ticket price. Class attendance is open to anyone 18+. Drinks are available for purchase for 21+ with proof of valid ID.

Guest requirement
All guests are recommended to wear masks, while cooking, during class. We will do our best to ensure booking parties are socially distanced from one another while eating. The nature of our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment. Outside drinks are not allowed. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are not included in the ticket price. Class attendance is open to anyone 18+. Drinks are available for purchase for 21+ with proof of valid ID.
Cancellation policy
Reschedule request have to be made at least 48 hours before the class for groups of less than 6 people and 14 days for groups of 6 people or more. Cancellations are not permitted and tickets are non-refundable.See terms and policy.
