Chinese Dumplings

Description

Discover the flavor-packed world of dumplings!

In this fun, hands-on class we will cover the history of Chinese dumplings, discuss crimping styles, assorted fillings, dipping sauces, and then we get busy. You will have a chicken lemon filling and a veggie filling. You will fill, seal, and crimp your own dumplings (making three different styles of dumplings), and then pan fry them and dip them in a sweet Thai chili sauce. Let the dumpling party begin!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group. Guests in the same booking party will sit and work together throughout the class. Our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment. Guests who arrive on their own may be asked to work with other single bookings throughout the class. Drinks are NOT included in the ticket price. However, guests are welcome to BYOB (beer, wine, or champagne only).

Meet your chef instructor

Hey all! I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, in the 90’s. I worked in restaurants for some top name chefs in the business. I trained under David Burke and Ed Brown. I did 5 years at an Upper East side café as head chef; I then got experience in hotel/catering at the Marriott Marquis at 45th and Broadway. I did 7 years at The View Restaurants, and banquet operations.

In 2012, I started my own business: I work in corporate catering health care, private dinners and meal drop off and delivery.

Most recently, I began teaching and it’s incredible. I love giving back and growing new chefs. That said, won’t you join me? I can put all of my experience to work for you. Let’s make some memories!

It was fun and informative. Hands on is truly they best way to learn. James was very knowledgeable and kept the class moving along. The portions were large - ate a bunch of dumplings and spring rolls there and brought home a big heap!

Had a great time! James was super patient in explaining everything. I’m glad the event was BYOB and that we were able to make as much dumplings and spring rolls as we wanted. Definitely recommend for a friend date or date night!

We had a wonderful time. Chef James was a great instructor. We learned a lot about the ingredients used in the food, where they could be purchased, and different cooking techniques. I have done cooking classes in the past, but they weren't as engaging, hands-on, and informative. Our chef guided us through every step of the process. Even a novice cook would end up with excellent results. I highly recommend taking a class with chef James. It was a great experience for my partner and I. Wonderful Date night!
