From the Bayou to the Bowl: Classic Gumbo

Description

Get ready to bring the bold, comforting flavors of Louisiana to the table! In this hands-on cooking experience, you'll dive into the rich history and irresistible flavors of gumbo—a true melting pot of culinary traditions influenced by West African, French, and Creole cooking.

Together, you'll create a hearty Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, packed with tender chicken, smoky Andouille sausage, aromatic vegetables, and layers of savory flavor. You'll learn one of the most important techniques behind a great gumbo: making the perfect roux. From slowly browning the flour to achieving that deep, nutty color, you'll discover how patience and technique transform simple ingredients into an incredibly flavorful base.

From there, we'll build the gumbo step-by-step, learning how to properly layer ingredients, develop rich flavor, and bring everything together into a comforting bowl of Louisiana goodness. Your finished gumbo will be served over fluffy rice—the perfect way to soak up every last bit of that delicious sauce.

Whether you're a longtime gumbo lover or trying it for the first time, this class is all about big flavors, Southern comfort, and having fun in the kitchen. Come ready to stir, simmer, and enjoy a taste of Louisiana!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don't already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who's happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and check-in, especially if you’re part of a large group. Guests will work in groups throughout the class, sharing equipment and ingredients. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are not included in the ticket price. Classes are intended for adults 18+.
