Classic French Macarons

Description

Be transported to the whimsical patisseries of Paris as you learn how to create the irresistible classic French Macaron!

Don your chef aprons, grab your whisks and lets get baking! In this fun and interactive class, you will learn the fine art to making these mouthwatering morsels that are easy enough to be done in your own kitchen! The classic 'Gerbert' or 'Paris Macaron' is a French meringue-based almond sandwich cookie. The celebrated original tea shop Ladurée on the Champs-Elysees in Paris is given credit for the invention of the classic French-style filled macaroon. However the cookies themselves are thought to have actually originated in Italy during the Renaissance. Their name comes from the Italian word “maccherone” meaning fine dough.

Together with our classically trained Pastry Chef Instructor, we will demystify the making of these highly sought-after meringue-based sandwich cookies. Class will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided step-by-step in replicating the process of meringue mixing, otherwise known as 'macaronage', piping, baking, assembling and most importantly enjoying! We will also explore different filling variations and what it is about these delicate confections that make them so special.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the baking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing). You will work with other students in groups of 2-4 sharing equipment and ingredients. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group.

My daughter and I had a lovely time. The ingredients were all pre-measured so we could spend our time mixing and piping. Even though we were set up in the lobby of a hotel, the space was good and the chef made it feel intimate. It was great hearing her story and her love for baking. Our macarons turned out delicious! We had 24 to take home.

This is a great class. Chef Maria is amazing and does a fabulous job teaching how to make macarons. They turned out perfect! She answered any and every question, is very personable and fun to learn from. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is wanting to try these cookies. My daughter and I had tried a couple times before, but they didn't turn out. After watching Chef Maria and making some on our own in class we figured out where we were going wrong. Definitely worth it! I will be looking to take more classes from Chef Maria in the future. Great experience.

Chef Maria was fantastic! She had the perfect personality and passion to make this class sooo enjoyable and fun. What a great teacher. I look forward to learning how to make tiramisu and empanadas! The set-up for the class was great, everything pre-measured so we could focus on just the technique and enjoy without having to process too much info. Chef Maria needs a sous chef so she doesn’t have to run back and forth cleaning utensils and monitor the baking. Hopefully she can one day have this class in a commercial kitchen type environment where there is an access to sink and oven. Thank you! Great Mother’s Day!

Chef Maria is a perfect instructor! She mixed humor, kind evaluation, pro tips, and demonstration to help every student succeed. I was highly impressed with the organization, timing, and final product of this class. Particularly useful was her critique of our cookies once out of the oven and her demonstration of the technique before we did it ourselves. I would take any class Chef Maria offered. Brava!!!
