Japanese Street Food: Okonomiyaki

Description
Escape to the enchanting streets of Japan as you learn how easy it is to make this iconic street food. The word "okonomiyaki" is derived from "okonomi" meaning "as you like" and "yaki" meaning "grilled. It's commonly referred to as being a Japanese pancake. Accurate to its name, okonomiyaki can be served with a variety of toppings. Okonomiyaki is savory, customizable, and just plain fun to make. It's part pancake, part vegetable fritter, and full-on flavor. This class is perfect for anyone who enjoys Asian flavors and wants to learn more about how to recreate these flavors and techniques at home!

In this entertaining, hands-on class, you will be guided step-by-step in creating the perfect batter that holds everything together. As you create your vegetarian base, you will also have the option of topping your artfully crafted Okonomiyaki with shrimp or vegetables and of course a drizzle of sauce.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you do not already have them in your home kitchen as well as Local sourcing tips in Portland for hard-to-find ingredients. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who is happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. BYOB is restricted. Our venue partner will have a great selection of drinks available for purchase.
