Make Your Own Ramen

Description

Due to limited seating this class can only accept bookings of 2 or more. If you are booking your class as a group please make the reservation under one name, as a full booking group.

Escape to the streets of Tokyo as we create Japanese Ramen Noodle Soup!

In this entertaining, hands-on class, you will be guided step-by-step in recreating a widely loved dish, renowned for its rich broth, abundance of noodles and endless toppings!  Use foundational knife skills to prep your fresh ingredients and learn about the essentials for creating a complex bowl of Ramen at home. Japanese cooking is about preparation, technique, and layering flavors. This class will discuss tares which translates to “sauce”. We will discuss the history of the four main tares: shio (salt) shoyu (soy sauce) miso (fermented soybean) and tonkatsu. The final step comes with the satisfaction of garnishing your bowl with delicious toppings. This class is perfect for anyone who enjoys Asian flavors and wants to learn more about how to recreate these dishes.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you do not already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who is happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. BYOB is restricted. Our venue partner, The Moxy Hotel has a full bar with drinks available to purchase.

Molly Behnke is a Los Angeles native reborn in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon. With over a decade of experience in the industry, an education in visual arts, and a passion for cooking sparked a fascination for molecular gastronomy. In search of new flavors and fueled by passion for diverse cultures, Chef Molly has traveled overseas through countries such as India, Thailand, and Nepal in search of the most authentic native dishes. Her style of cooking is inspired by these flavors using Pacific Northwest ingredients.

Chef Behnke has a wide variety of abilities such as large catering, intimate dinners, and custom pastries. She crafts meals that blend flavors, textures, and presentation to create a feast for a special occasion. Molly takes pride in creating desserts that are uniquely one of a kind using her background and knowledge of sweet and savory. Her ability to work with live fire cooking adds a distinctive element to her culinary repertoire allowing her to create memorable experiences that connect guests with the lost art of cooking over a flame. My ramen experience with Molly was 5 stars. She is the hardest working teacher I have ever experienced. Her preparation for this class was incredible. Every single element that was needed to make a great dish of Ramen was provided. At each table were items to cut in preparation of the broth, she showed us how noodles could be simply made, provided an excellent handout, explained every step and when it was time to put together our Ramen bowls, she set up a table that had additional seasonings and flavors. I cannot even imagine how many hours she spent to prep for this class. Her enthusiasm and desire for us to have the complete step by step experience was exceptional. She was great and whenever she teaches another class, I am signing up.
