Classic Empanadas

Description

Join us for an evening in Argentina, where you will learn to make the flaky meets juicy pastry pocket we all know and love: The Empanada. These flavorful patties made of dough are traditionally filled with meat, seafood, cheese, vegetables or fruit, and have a variety of adaptions based on the country you enjoy them in. It is however believed that early Spanish immigrants carried the recipe to Argentina during the 16th century.

In this fun and hands-on class, you will be guided step-by-step in preparing your own Empanadas from scratch with authentic Argentine-style fillings. You will learn to make the dough then fill them with the Chef's recipe featuring ground beef and spices. Next, the Chef will demonstrate how to fill your empanada disks before folding and sealing the edges to perfection. You will also join your Chef Instructor in preparing a traditional and delicious sauce for dipping.

The best part of the class will be sitting down to enjoy your delicious made from scratch meal, with new-found skills to remake this special dish and share with friends and family back home!

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting.

Where the class will be
Grafted Cellars
2379 La Mirada Drive Vista, CA 92081
Nestled amongst breweries and distilleries in a Vista business park, Grafted Cellars is a hidden gem of quality wine. A family-owned Urban Winery, we source our grapes from right here in Vista, to Napa Valley, to Oregon’s Willamette Valley, any AVA in between…but quality varietals from our own South Coast AVA are a priority, to showcase our local terroir and potential. Fruit is processed and aged at our in-house cellar, right behind our tasting room… we do it all right here. With over 20 varietals represented (and always more on the way), and with love and appreciation for both new and old world style and expression, Grafted Cellars has something for everyone.

Steven is a very motivated instructor and an excellent teacher. However, I was disappointed with the class overall. This was not cooking but just assembling the empanadas. There was no kitchen, the room was very cold and not designed to hold the number of people in the class. I feel that I was way overcharged for what this class ended up being.

Steven did a great job of preparing the ingredients and it was all set up when we arrived. He had great instructions and helped us along the way. There were some unexpected glitches with the cook stove and he adapted it and did an excellent job!
