Make Your Own Vegan Sushi

Description

Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on cooking class you’ll practice all the skills needed to make sushi rolls at home. You'll start by learning how to prepare and season sushi rice and add additional tasty vegetables and other ingredients to enhance the deliciousness of your sushi. During class you will make 3 vegan rolls: Tropical Roll(mango, avocado, cucumber, seaweed salad, crumbled macadamia nuts, green onion and sesame seeds, Creamy and Colorful Veggie roll(creamy vegan mayo/tofu, alfalfa sprouts, carrots and beet sauce), and a Sweet Potato Tempura Roll(cucumber, avocado, green onion, sprouts and vegan unagi sauce).

No experience is required! All equipment and ingredients will be provided. Our events are casual and meant to be fun, relaxing and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting.

The class will take place in Chef's home, where Chef will implement utmost safety and sanitation measures. Guests are invited to BYOB wine, champagne, beer or sake. Guests are also encouraged to bring their own aprons, otherwise Chef will provide the aprons. You are encouraged to bring reusable containers to take any leftover home.

Meet your chef instructor
Driven by a passion for accessible, sustainable, and flavorful plant-based cuisine, Chef Reya has dedicated her career to using food as a powerful tool for positive change. Her journey began as a plant-based chef and educator, where she developed cooking classes for college students focused on creating seasonal, budget-friendly, and delicious meals. Through grants she secured for the Food Systems Working Group, a nonprofit dedicated to food security, she was able to offer these classes for free, creating a valuable resource that empowered students to make nourishing meals on a budget. Her commitment to food security and sustainable systems led her to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, where she experienced profound culinary growth. At Esalen, she refined her skills, working with fresh, seasonal ingredients and learning from a community dedicated to holistic well-being. Today, she carries forward this knowledge and my dedication to making plant-based eating both accessible and deeply satisfying for all.
