Join us for an evening of Louisiana cooking in our Creole Style Jambalaya class! Jambalaya is one dish that encompasses influences from Spanish, French, Native American, Caribbean, and African cultures. Our Chef Instructor will share the significance of this dish as it pertains to African and American cultures.
You may recognize Jambalaya as a distant cousin of Spanish Paella. There are definitely similarities! But, in creole style Jambalaya, tomatoes are used instead of the saffron commonly found in traditional paella.
In this hands-on cooking class, you will learn to properly season your shrimp & apply knife skills to prepare the veggies, chicken, and andouille sausage.
Then fire up the skillet to cook this beautiful dish, while the spicy aromas fill the room. The best part is sitting down together as a class to enjoy your new favorite dish.
This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing). No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. You will work with other students in groups.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group. Guests are invited to BYOB.
Chef Ola began cooking as a young child in Ibadan, Nigeria. That love for food traveled with her as she relocated to St. Louis, MO.
She started showcasing her culinary talents as an undergraduate at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She would cook for large events like talent shows and International Fairs. The success of such events led her to start preparing authentic Nigerian meals for sale, and from that her very own catering company, O’s Kitchen, was born!
Now residing in Dallas, she continues to perfect her craft while spreading love and light, one plate at a time!
