Hand-Rolled Sushi

Description

Don’t let the sushi chef have all the fun!

Come and learn how to spread, layer, tuck and roll your way to sushi heaven. In this fun, hands-on social cooking class, you’ll practice all the skills needed to make rolls at home, including how to prepare and season sushi rice, select sushi-grade fish, and add additional tasty vegetables and other ingredients to enhance the deliciousness of your sushi. You’ll learn to make a traditional cucumber roll, salmon avocado roll, and a Japanese veggie hand roll.

You will work with other students in groups of 2. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group.

Guests are encouraged to BYOB, an even better way to spend the night creating sushi rolls in your cozy neighborhood bed and breakfast.

There is not a position in the restaurant that Chef Alex has not held working 25 years in Japanese cuisine. From Chicago to Tokyo and back, everything from commercial tuna and seafood work to Izakaya and Teppanyaki has left its mark (usually visible) as Chef Alex continues to show everyone fun and stress free ways to be sociable AND learn something of Japanese food.

We had a great time and learned a lot about how to prepare sushi at home! The only feedback I’d have is that I wish the description was accurate. The class information listed ‘shellfish free’ and said that a salmon roll would be part of the class. I’m allergic to shellfish and was upset to find out that the salmon had been substituted with crab. Alex was very accommodating, but I still feel like I missed out on making sushi with fish...

Alex was great!! Super informative and very personable. He was fun and we will definitely be back for another class taught by him. Would love to see a raw fish class from him as that is his background as well. We liked this class but I think a round table with a smaller class where alex could focus more on what people were doing would have made this excellent.
