Traditional Cuban cuisine is more than just the popular Mojito and classic Cuban sandwich. In a CocuSocial premiere, learn the authentic flavors of Cuba by learning to make two traditional dishes: Picadillo & Moro.
Join Chef Jerry from his kitchen in The Bronx, where he will teach you step-by-step to make a flavorful meal featuring Cuban comfort food. Picadillo comes from the Spanish root word 'picar,' which means to chop. It is a dish that is stew-like in nature and in the Cuban style incorporates meats, vegetables, olives and raisins to balance out the flavor of some classic spices. Moro is a dish of black beans and rice, the perfect side dish for your hearty Picadillo. This recipe is filled with spices, bacon, red wine, and stock to really amplify the dish and bring the simplicity of it to a whole new level. Chef Jerry will also be sure to teach you some helpful kitchen tips and knife skills along the way.
Invite your friends and family to join you for class so you can connect virtually and enjoy a fun evening of creating something delicious (and comforting!) together from scratch. No experience is required! You'll have the opportunity to interact with Chef Jerry throughout the class and ask questions as you go.
You will receive an email with the equipment and ingredients list. However, the main ingredients required to participate along with the chef in your own kitchen include: black beans, long grain rice, olive oil, onion, peppers, garlic, soffit, red wine, dried oregano, dried thyme, cumin, paprika, bay leaves, chicken stock, cilantro, bacon, salt, pepper, olives, raisins, capers, tomato sauce or paste, ground beef, beef broth or bouillon.
Prepare your mis-en-place ahead of the session, grab a glass of your favorite drink, and let’s get cooking!
