Arepas are popular in Columbian and especially Venezuelan cuisine. They are corn patties that resemble English Muffins. These doughy delights are perfect for stuffing with meats and vegetables, eating on their own, or dipping into something scrumptious.
Join Chef Jerry from his kitchen in The Bronx, where he will teach you step-by-step to in preparing your very own arepas with your choice of chicken and/or black bean and cheese fillings. Once having gained some brief insight into Venezuelan cuisine and Arepa history, you will be taught some valuable knife skills and kitchen tips.
Before sitting down to enjoy your meal, you will also learn how to make Chef Jerry's favorite Chimichurri sauce. Drizzle on the good stuff and assemble your arepas before indulging in this famous South American delight! There will be enough ingredients for each person to make 6 mini or 3 standard sized arepas.
Invite your friends and family to join you for class so you can connect virtually and enjoy a fun evening of creating something delicious (and comforting!) together from scratch. No experience is required! You'll have the opportunity to interact with Chef Jerry throughout the class and ask questions as you go.
You will receive an email with the equipment and ingredients list. However, the main ingredients required to participate along with the chef in your own kitchen include: red pepper, green pepper, onion, garlic, black beans, chicken breast, pre-cooked cornmeal, adobo seasoning, red pepper flakes, ground cumin, Worcestershire sauce, white wine vinegar, queso blanco, brown sugar, butter, shredded mozzarella cheese, fresh cilantro, fresh oregano, flat-leaf Italian Parsley, cholla hot sauce, olive oil, salt, ground black pepper.
Prepare your mis-en-place ahead of the session, grab a glass of your favorite drink, and let’s get cooking!
