Virtually every cuisine has a palette of basic flavors on which its dishes are built. For the French, it's mirepoix. For Latin-based cuisine, it's Sofrito. In Sichuan cuisine, it's highly aromatic ingredients like soy, ginger, chilis, Sichuan peppercorns, cinnamon, star anise, bay leaves, and black cardamom. Almost every Asian dish is based on these flavors!
After learning about the traditional flavors and ingredients, we'll dive right into an evening of Asian style cooking! For dinner, we will make Shanghai's famous Sesame Noodles. The noodles will be served with a simple poached chicken glazed in a flavorful ginger and soy sauce. Using wonton wrappers, we will make, shape, and fill our own vegetable dumplings. The dumplings will be served with a chili oil that guests will make from scratch. Guests will also have the choice to either pan fry or steam their dumplings, after learning about both techniques.
Participants will leave with their own supply of fresh made chili oil as well as a foundation of knowledge on which they may choose to explore further the flavorful world of Asian cuisines. A selection of wine and beers will be available for purchase to enjoy while cooking and eating your meal.
No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting.
You will be seated with your booking party and socially distanced from other guests. Guests in the same booking party will work together throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are NOT included in the ticket price. Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.
