Enjoy a truly unique hands-on virtual cooking experience immersed in traditional Puerto Rican hospitality. Hosted by our resident NYC chef instructor, with a proud Puerto Rican heritage, you will gain a deeper understanding of the history of Puerto Rican culture and cuisine before diving into a delicious homemade meal.
Join Chef Jerry from his kitchen in The Bronx, where he will teach you step-by-step to make two traditional Puerto Rican dishes, Mofongo & Shrimp Empanadas. Both of these dishes can be adapted to Vegetarian friendly versions. And, if you prefer a sweeter treat to go along with your Mofongo you can replace your empanada filling with Nutella, Guava Paste, baked Apples, or whatever else you have at home. Chef Jerry will also be sure to teach you some helpful kitchen tips and knife skills along the way.
Invite your friends and family to join you for class so you can connect virtually and enjoy a fun evening of creating something delicious (and comforting!) together from scratch. No experience is required! You'll have the opportunity to interact with Chef Jerry throughout the class and ask questions as you go.
You will receive an email with the equipment and ingredients list. However, the main ingredients required to participate along with the chef in your own kitchen include: plantains, chicharrón (or pork rinds), garlic, frying oil, olive oil, empanada disks (Goya brand is great!), shrimp, onion, tomato sauce, sofrito, sazon, adobo (spices and proteins can be substituted with what you have at home).
Prepare your mis-en-place ahead of the session, grab a glass of your favorite drink, and let’s get cooking!
