Mixology 101: The Art of Cocktails

Description

In two fun-filled hours you can become a confident bartender, creating delicious and gorgeous cocktails, to the delight of your guests. A master mixologist will walk you through how to stock a basic bar and create classic cocktails and some fun variations. In this class we’ll demonstrate how to make four classic drinks while teaching the history of the tools bartenders have been using for more than 150 years and how to use them like a pro. We’ll make and tell stories about a Paloma, Gimlet, Old Fashioned, and Martini.

The instructor will demonstrate each cocktail on the menu, giving you the opportunity to taste them all. Each student will be paired with a partner and have the opportunity to make their two favorites from the list.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Guests will work in groups of two throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment, but we are happy to seat you with your booking party if you are with a bigger group. Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.

Meet your chef instructor

A veteran barkeep, Sarah LM Mengoni cut her teeth working in Michigan beer dives and shot joints then moved to Chicago where she discovered and embraced the World of the Cocktail. Her enthusiasm for cocktail culture and gift for crafting unique recipes has earned her industry recognition, such as 50 Women to Watch in Hotel F&B magazine, as well as countless features in publications such as Imbibe, Food and Wine, Vogue, Forbes, GQ, and Time Out LA, to name a few. Sarah is a graduate of the distinguished BAR 5-DAY program in New York City, which stands as one of the industry’s top mixology certifications. Currently Sarah is teaching cocktail classes, working as a Bar and Beverage Consultant through and pedaling her book “Once Upon a Cocktail- West Hollywood”

The nature of our classes are set up so that booking parties will work together during class, sharing both ingredients and equipment. Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.

Cancellation policy

Reschedule request have to be made at least 48 hours before the class for groups of less than 6 people and 14 days for groups of 6 people or more. Cancellations are not permitted and tickets are non-refundable.See terms and policy.

Shannon was a wonderful teacher full of drinks history and interesting facts about liquor and mixes to use. The small group experience was super fun in the bar setting, not stuck in a back room. The four drinks we learned about each had different liquors so we had a nice sampling. The bar is beautiful and lively on a Sunday afternoon. The cost is appropriate as you really do have four full drinks! Small plate nibbles are available to purchase. The Or Bar has dedicated parking which made it easy. There are ample restaurants within walking distance to go to which you need food after these drinks. I would definietly recommend this experience!

Great experience, the instructor was amazing and perfectly explained the history of the cocktails as well as how to make them. It was extremely fun and the whole atmosphere of the bar felt welcoming and the people there were really friendly. My wife and I really enjoyed the experience and we’d love to go again sometime.
