Classic French Macarons

Description

Embark on a delightful journey into the world of French Macarons with our fun workshop, designed with beginners in mind.

In this hands-on class, you will learn step-by-step how to achieve the perfect macaron shell, practicing the technique of mixing and folding. The classic 'Gerbert' or 'Paris Macaron' is a French meringue-based almond sandwich cookie. The celebrated original tea shop Ladurée on the Champs-Elysees in Paris is given credit for the invention of the classic French-style filled macaroon. However the cookies themselves are thought to have actually originated in Italy during the Renaissance. Their name comes from the Italian word “maccherone” meaning fine dough.

Together with our classically trained Pastry Chef Instructor, we will demystify the making of these highly sought-after meringue-based sandwich cookies. Our Pastry Chef Instructor will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided step-by-step in replicating the process of meringue mixing, otherwise known as 'macaronage', piping, baking, assembling and of course, eating! We will make a luscious French buttercream and explore flavors such as delicate almond and vanilla to more innovative combinations with matcha. This workshop will equip you with the fundamental skills and techniques needed to create these iconic treats in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you do not already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the baking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who is happier observing and assisting (or taste testing). You will work with other students in groups of 2-5 sharing equipment and ingredients. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you are part of a large group. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are NOT included in the ticket price. Outside drinks are not allowed. Guests 18+ are welcome to join us for class.

The class was so much fun. I really enjoyed Chef Yuhe Su. He did an amazing job going over instructions and showing us how to make the cookies. This is my second time making the cookies and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I went. He was patient and made sure all understood how to make the cookies. The reason why I attended his class again because he is a really good instructor/Chef who making baking fun in a relaxing setting. I plan to attend this class again and others by this chef. He is one of my favorite Chef. I will bring a bigger group next time around. Overall a great, fun, relaxing experience. I will do it again and again.

Great class! Chef Su did an excellent job demonstrating the proper techniques for making macarons and then checking in at each table of students to make sure we were doing it correctly. The result was dozens of beautiful macarons in multiple hues and flavors. FYI, in class the students make just the macaron shells. There's a demo of how to prepare the butter cream filling, but batches of filling had been prepare ahead for the class to use on their macarons.
