Japanese Desserts: Mochi Ice Cream and Matcha Slice

Description

Japanese desserts present a variety of flavors and textures that are exciting to the American palate. You may have tried a Matcha tea latte before, but have you ever baked with Matcha?!

Join Chef Jen from her Chicago kitchen as she guides you through an hour and a half of making two tasty and trendy Japanese desserts: Mochi Ice Cream and a tiered Matcha Cake.

Pick out your favorite ice cream and get ready to learn the secret to freezing it in a case made out of rice flour and sugar. Then learn how to fill your Matcha cake layers with a home made Adzuki (red bean) filling.

Invite your friends and family to join you for class so you can connect virtually and make some delicious and creative treats together. This is a fun class for the whole family to enjoy, especially the taste testing part at the end! No experience is required! You'll have the opportunity to interact with Chef Jen throughout the class and ask questions as you go.

You will receive an email with the equipment and ingredients list. However, the main ingredients required to assemble your desserts along with the chef include: rice flour, cake flour, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, baking powder, eggs, food coloring, cornstarch, ice cream, canola oil, cream of tartar, red beans, butter, heavy cream, cool whip, and matcha powder.

Tickets are on a per-person basis. Please note our class times are in Eastern Time Zone!

Overall the class was good. Comments: 1. Instructor asked if there were newbies there, and there were including me. I would think there are always newbies, or at least most of the time. Note - I as newbie, and probably others - did not know there is a difference between cake flour and regular all purpose flour. I think this should have been highlighted in the instructions, similar to how the sweet rice flour was, ie not regular rice flour. 2. Instructor used a 9x13 pan instead of two 8x8" pans as listed on recipe outline. I went to buy two 8x8 specifically for this class, but I already have a 9x13. Again, could have listed option of 9x13 to save me some money and time. Thanks for the class, we enjoyed it.

It was a wonderful class! I didn't realize it would be so intimate that we could ask questions to the instructor. I was a bit too tired to bake alongside her, but it was a wonderful learning experience and interaction with Jen. She was warm, friendly, helpful and the set up was straight forward, and the noise canceling to the mixer motor was great, too. I think kids would love this experience, too.
